- Vega is one of the reasons you don't have to drive to SoHo for funky, high-end furniture -- and one of the reasons DC's Chinatown is often called the arts district. Opened in 2000 by Northern Virginia native Jenny Pedersen, Vega offers a philosophy of color and texture. There are a variety of fabrics -- felt to leather -- with the occasional red lounge chair breaking up the earthy grays, blacks and browns. Vega boasts more than 100 design lines, including Ivano Redaelli furniture and linens, Ingo Maurer and Azizi lighting and Alessi tableware. You'll find a traditional gray living room ensemble plus more statement-making pieces, such as a chandelier constructed entirely of light bulbs hanging on black wires.
