The Bead Museum and Study Center of Washington, DC, are non-profit organizations created to foster public appreciation and understanding of beads and ornaments as subjects of serious study as well as objects of beauty and enjoyment. The Bead Museum was founded in 1994. In June 1997 the Museum opened its first gallery in The Jennifer Building, in the new downtown cultural corridor, in Washington, DC. The Bead Study Center which the Bead Society of Greater Washington opened in July, aims to provide useful reference and study materials, not only for scholars and collectors, but also for bead designers, makers and hobbyists alike.
