Bike & Walk
Bicycling and walking are great ways to get to and around Downtown.
Wayfinding has gotten a whole lot easier for pedestrians with directional signs to major destinations provided by the Downtown BID and orientation maps for popular sites in Downtown.
Bicyclists are welcome Downtown, where more than 200 inverted-U parking devices are located on public space and in commercial parking garages. The Downtown BID and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) are assisting property owners and managers in meeting the requirement for bicycle parking in office building garages with a new brochure on bicycle parking. Click here to download a copy of this brochure (PDF, 1 MB).
When planning your trip to Downtown, be sure to check the Washington Area Bicyclist Association web site for bicycle routing and commuting assistance. If you'd like to rent a bicycle while you're Downtown, visit Bike the Sites in the Old Post Office Pavillion. The DC Bicycle Program Office at DDOT is planning 50 miles of bike lanes, many of them in Downtown. To learn more, visit their Bike Plan web site.
