Seven development projects totaling $693 million were completed in Downtown in 2013. The development highlight was the completion of the office, retail and parking portions of CityCenterDC, the site of the former convention center. CityCenterDC condominiums and apartments were mostly completed in early 2014. Throughout 2014, the project’s office and retail tenants and residents will move in, completing Phase One of this development.  As envisioned in the city’s planning of Downtown in 2001 and 2002, the redevelopment of the site of the city’s old convention center is the capstone of Downtown’s rebirth. In line with the city-mandated mix of uses on the convention center redevelopment site, CityCenterDC will soon be home to over 2,500 employees, over 1,000 residents, several restaurants and over 15 exciting retailers. It is currently anticipated that all three phases of the project will be completed by the end of 2018.

In May 2014, the Marriott Marquis Convention Center Headquarters Hotel will open, featuring 1,175 guest rooms, five restaurants/bars, 105,000 SF of ballroom and meeting space and access to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center by an underground walkway.
