BID Programs > Public Space Improvements > Banner Program Banner Program

The Downtown BID manages a comprehensive program for street banners. The BID banner program:
- identifies the Downtown BID service area;
- adds color and vitality to the Downtown streetscape;
- publicizes a diverse array of events, activities and attractions that draw people into Downtown DC.
Downtown street banners are an extremely cost-effective way to convey information about special events and activities. A wide range of groups is eligible to submit applications to use Downtown street banners to publicize their events. Because the demand for banner space occasionally exceeds the supply, certain uses are given prioirity:
- Banners produced by the Downtown BID that promote Downtown's image or publicize national or international events such as the National Cherry Blossom Festival®.
- Banners promoting special events or activities held within the BID District, or sponsored by nonprofit organizations located within the BID District.
- Groups hosting events at the Washington Convention Center, the Verizon Center, or other Downtown venues.
- Citywide special events or activities open to the public-such as the the BB&T Classic basketball tournament.
- Banners to celebrate a Downtown BID building, institution or neighborhood.
Under the BID banner program, the primary message of a banner may not promote or advertise a specific business, product, or service.
