Maintenance & Beautification
The maintenance program’s goal is to make Downtown cleaner and more attractive, which helps to deter crime and negative activity. Downtown SAMs provide cleaning, maintenance and beautification services to maintain the area’s welcoming image. They collect trash and litter, sweep sidewalks, remove gum and grafitti, plant flowers, hang banner and paint public fixtures. Using state-of-the-art technology and equipment, SAMs identify and report hazards and defects, monitor and sustain trees and deliver consistent and high quality service to Downtown stakeholders.
DC/Traffic and East of the River Community Court
The Downtown BID has been an active partner with the DC/Traffic Community Court and East of the River Community Court over the last four years. Defendants convicted of minor crimes (quality of life crimes) in our BID area are sentenced to work with our maintenance SAMs to complete their community service. These workers wear red vests with "Community Court/Community Service" printed on the front and back.
