Bread for the City - Food and clothing distribution, primary medical care, legal advice/representation, and comprehensive social services for low-income residents. Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program - Twenty-four hour/seven day a week emergency psychiatric services, mobile crisis services and extended observation beds for those 18 years of age and older. Core Services Agencies - Through outreach and referrals. serves mentally ill not currently receiving services. Provides access to mental health professionals, diagnostic/assessment, counseling, community support, and medication/somatic treatment. DC Department of Human Services - Helps homeless residents become self-sufficient through interagency collaboration. Services include: Aging, Child Welfare, Day Care, DC Housing Search, Education, Employment, DC Food Finder, Health, HIV/AIDS, Homeless Transportation, Hypothermia, Mental Health, Shelter, Substance Abuse, Supportive Housing and more. DC Department of Mental Health - Homeless Outreach Teams provide crisis assessment and interventions for those 18 and older experiencing a mental health crisis on the streets or in a homeless shelter. DC Vital Records Division - Help obtaining or amending birth, health and death records. First Helping - A street-level outreach project of DC Central Kitchen (DCCK) provides breakfasts to individuals on the streets and in emergency shelters. The project builds relationships and helps move individuals into the shelter system. Also provides social service assistance and refferals with an emphasis on those suffering from substance abuse. Gospel Rescue Mission - Ministry for transient homeless men, unemployed men, elderly men, male and female drug addicts. Offers food, shelter, bed and shower facilities plus a school for computer and lifestyle skills, professional counseling, group interaction, Bible classes, Chapel services, and recreational activities. Hospitals - Emergency medical services Income Maintenance Administration - Determines eligibility for Temporary Cash Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medical Assistance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly Food Stamps), and Child Care Subsidy, Burial Assistance, Emergency Rental Assistance, and Interim Disability Assistance, Refugee Cash Assistance and other programs. Food Stamp Employment and Training Program (FSET) serve able-bodied adults who receive food stamps and are without dependents. |
McClendon Center - Professional staff serves adults with serious and persistent mental illness through clinical skills building, consumer empowerment, expressive arts therapy and substance abuse recovery. Metropolitan Police Department - Assistance with life-threatening or illegal situations. Provides a comprehensive interactive list of shelters by Police District: Metro Transit Police - Tri-state jurisdiction and assistance with life-threatening or illegal situations in or around any part of the transit system. Miriam’s Kitchen - Provides meals and comprehensive case management services to homeless men and women. Nursing Homes - Services for elder care and independent living Pathways to Housing DC - Provides housing first and gives support and treatment for those with psychiatric disabilities to facilitate their recovery and integration into the community. Conducts research to find new and effective approaches to recovery and community integration. Psychiatric Institute of Washington - Comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults and seniors suffering from emotional and addictive illnesses. Rachel’s Women Center - Day Shelter Program supplements evening shelters, and has programs for HIV and womens issues. Rehabilitation Services Administration - Oversees grant programs helping those with physical or mental disabilities obtain employment and independence through counseling, medical and psychological services, job training and other individualized services. Social Security Administration - Helps determine eligibility for benefits and provides application assistance. Traveler’s Aid - Assists individuals and families who are in crisis or transition and are disconnected from their resources. US Park Police - Assistance with life-threatening or illegal situations on National Park parcels. Unity Health Care - A citywide network of health and human services for the medically underserved. Veteran’s Administration - Programs and initiatives to help homeless veterans live self-sufficiently and independently including clinical assessment and medical for physical and psychiatric disorders, including substance abuse; long-term sheltered transitional assistance, case management, and rehabilitation; employment assistance and linkage with available income supports; and supported permanent housing. Whitman-Walker Clinic - Health care and supportive services for gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender individuals.
