For further background material see ULI’s website from their June 2010 New York forum on Energy Finance for Real Estate. There are presentations on how the Empire State Building realized a 38% energy savings through energy retrofits, on District Energy, financing solar energy, energy services agreements, as well as other materials on financing energy efficiency.

2008 Energy Star Training

Energy Efficiency Training for Property Managers and Building Engineers

The first Energy Star training session for Downtown property managers, Benchmarking Your Property with the EPA Energy Star Portfolio Manager, was hosted by the BID along with co-sponsors Energy Star and Cool Capital Challenge, Trainer Leslie Cook, Energy Star Public Sector Manager – Click here to access this presentation.Climate Protection Partnerships Division, demonstrated how EPA’s online energy management tool, Portfolio Manager, helps evaluate energy performance by measuring and tracking energy use and carbon emissions across a portfolio of buildings.  Attendees learned how to develop a baseline for energy use, prioritize investments, set goals and track energy use improvements over time.

Energy Efficiency Training for Property Managers and Building Engineers

The Downtown BID hosted Energy Efficiency Training Managers and Building Engineers featuring five panelist practitioners, and service providers who presented examples of energy efficiency improvements.  The featured  presentation by the Akridge Team demonstrated how by a program of management and operations improvement their company to cut energy consumption at the Homer Building by 34%.  The event was co-sponsored by Akridge, Cassidy, Pinkard and Colliers, Energy Star, Cool Challenge and the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

DowntownDC ecoDistrict: A 21st Century Sustainability Framework

At 2010 EcoDistrict Summit co-hosted by the DowntownDC BID and the Urban Land Institute, more than 50 property owners, developers, federal and local officials, financial experts, planners, architects, and lenders came together to initiate the DowntownDC ecoDistrict sustainability program. The EcoDistrict Summit spawned a vision for a sustainable future fueled by efficiencies brought on by cooperation, and a realization that constructing new high-performing buildings and effectively retrofitting existing buildings will call for creative and innovative financing. This paper is a preliminary guide to the DowntownDC ecoDistrict.
