Conventions, Hotels and Tourism

Downtown Washington DC is one of the most important cultural destinations in the world, and new entertainment and sports venues contribute significantly to visitors' attraction to the city. In addition, the success of Washington's Convention Center, located in the heart of the Downtown BID, has provided vital support for the area. In 2004, the Revenue per Available Room (RevPar), was the highest yet and occupancy rates in Downtown hotels consistently outperform those in the rest of the District. These dollars are critical to maintaining a vibrant downtown economy and to Washington DC's place as a center of our nation's political and cultural life. The Conventions, Hotels and Tourism section provides analysis of local hotel and visitor numbers as well as the performance over time of local attractions, such as the Smithsonian museums.
