WASHINGTON, DC – The Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) announced new Board of Directors officers and members for fiscal year 2010.

Bradley Edwards, general manager of the Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel, will serve as chairman. He has been a Board member since the BID was founded in 1997 and has served as a first vice chair, secretary and treasurer. Edwards succeeds Matt Klein, president of Akridge, who served two terms as chairman.

“We’re delighted to pass the torch on to Bradley Edwards,” said Richard H. Bradley, executive director of the Downtown BID. “He has a strong grasp of Downtown’s relationship to the city’s economy and vibrancy. Like Matt Klein, he is a visionary with good instincts, experience and insight.”

Edwards joined the Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel in 1993 and is responsible for the overall operation of the facility. He has more than 35 years experience in the hospitality industry, including 20 years with Marriott.

“I look forward to my term as chairman of the BID Board,” said Edwards. “My colleagues and I plan to continue revitalizing parks and public spaces, improving street vitality through exceptional placemaking, implementing transportation innovations and increasing residential options for the homeless.”

In addition to Edwards, the following Board members will assume a one-year term as officers beginning October 1:

· First Vice-Chair, Peter Johnston, senior vice president and regional manager of Boston Properties
· Second Vice-Chair, Robert Braunohler, vice president of operations and development for Louis Dreyfus Property Group
· Secretary, Jane Taylor, chief marketing officer for Washington Sports & Entertainment, is serving her second term
· Treasurer, Michael McCarthy, vice president and director of acquisitions for Quadrangle Development Corporation

The Board of Directors elected Chase Rynd, president and executive director of the National Building Museum, to a three-year term that ends in September 2012.

In fiscal year 2009, the Board appointed Bart Bush, regional commissioner, Public Buildings Service for the General Services Administration, National Capital Region; and Gregory A. O’Dell, chief executive officer and general manager at the Washington Convention Center Authority, to replace executives who left their organizations. The membership confirmed both to complete terms that will expire in September 2010. Merrick T. Malone, a trustee and former chair of The Historical Society of Washington, DC, joined the Board during the same period for a term that expires in September 2011.
