WASHINGTON, DC – The Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) Corporation announced new Board of Directors officers and members for fiscal year 2012.

Steven Jumper, director of corporate public policy for Washington Gas Light (WGL) Holdings, Inc., is the new chairman. A Board member since 1998, he also has served frequently on the Executive Committee. Jumper succeeds Bradley Edwards, general manager of the Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel, who served two terms as chairman.

“Steve has been with us virtually from the beginning and brings considerable assets to the table,” said Richard H. Bradley, executive director of the DowntownDC BID. “He has a firm grasp of the unique issues that are central to Downtown. His considerable expertise in the public utility industry continues to be invaluable, particularly as we hone our focus on sustainability.”

Jumper joined Washington Gas in 1997. Today, he is responsible for leading the company’s public policy agenda and programs that include the public utility and its unregulated affiliates. Prior to joining the company, he served in cabinet-level state government positions, including as deputy chief of staff and director of the District’s local business enterprise department under former DC Mayor Sharon Pratt.

“This is a very exciting time to serve as chairman of the BID Board,” said Jumper. “The organization has expanded its reach beyond clean, safe, and friendly for some time to now creating a leadership platform for a DowntownDC ecoDistrict, security and emergency management, and communications that will position it well for the 21st century.”

In addition to Jumper, the following Board members assumed one-year terms as officers beginning October 1, 2011:

  • First Vice-Chair, Peter Johnston, senior vice president and regional manager of Boston Properties
  • Second Vice-Chair, Robert Braunohler, vice president of operations and development for Louis Dreyfus Property Group
  • Treasurer, Michael McCarthy, vice president and director of acquisitions for Quadrangle Development Corporation
  • Secretary, Ginger Laytham, senior executive officer to the president, chief executive officer and chairman of Clyde’s Restaurant Group, a new Board member

The membership also elected new Board members to serve beginning October 1, 2011. They include Jeffrey Bank, chief executive officer of The Alicart Restaurant Group; Randall Boe, executive vice president and general counsel of Monumental Sports & Entertainment; Donna Cooper, vice president of Pepco’s DC Region; Jackie S. Duke, regional vice president of operations for Brookfield Office Properties; Eric Eichmann, chief operating officer of LivingSocial; Joan Berman, senior vice president of management services for Vornado/Charles E. Smith; and Kathy Kronopolous, regional commissioner, Public Buildings Service for the General Services Administration, National Capital Region.
