Downtown BID Welcomes Momentum Awards Nominations

Public Encouraged to Participate and Qualify for Awards Invitations

WASHINGTON, DC – The Downtown DC Business Improvement District’s (BID) annual Momentum Awards honor the people, programs and projects that have brought innovation and excitement to Downtown DC. This year, the public is invited to participate in the selection process by helping identify nominees who have made visiting Downtown a remarkable urban experience.

“Opening the 2010 awards to the public is an inclusive and novel way to get everyone involved,” according to Richard H. Bradley, the Downtown BID’s executive director. “Downtown workers, visitors and residents can submit the names of entrants who they believe significantly impacted the Downtown community by enhancing its natural beauty, relevance and heritage or adding to its ambiance, accessibility and advancement.”

The public has until August 30 to submit nominees in the following seven categories:

  • Downtown Person of the Year – An individual who has made a positive and significant contribution to a program or project in the Downtown, or who has applied personal or political commitment to assist in revitalizing the area.
  • Downtown Experience – An event, entity or idea that involved people in or exposed them to a positive Downtown experience, thus enhancing their enjoyment while visiting the area.
  • Downtown Detail – A small-scale improvement that has had a major impact in the Downtown; this may include flowerbeds, window displays, awnings, etc.
  • Downtown Partnership/Program – An organization or company that has made a unique, positive contribution to a project or program in the Downtown, or that has been responsible for a project or program that has complemented the work of the DC government and the BID.
  • Landmark Development Project – An iconic building, attraction or activity that serves as a magnet to attract people Downtown by improving the physical environment, or by enhancing the economic, cultural or social well-being of the area.
  • Public Sector – A person or organization that has made a positive and significant contribution to a program or project in the Downtown, or that has applied personal or political commitment to assist in revitalizing the area.
  • Private Sector – A person or organization that has made a positive and significant contribution to a program or project in the Downtown, or that has applied personal, financial or corporate commitment to assist in revitalizing the area.

A committee of Downtown BID board members will select the candidates who best represent individual and organizational achievement. Participants whose entrants are selected will receive two complimentary invitations to the annual awards gala, where they can converse, dine and mingle with some of Downtown’s most influential movers and shakers.
