The horses are coming! If you’re crazy about the equine species or simply enjoy championship sport, entertainment and fun, trot over to the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS), which will go on at the Verizon Center (601 F Street) on Tuesday, October 23rd, through Sunday, October 28th—and take the entire family!

This championship event celebrates its 54th year in the Washington metropolitan area and its 13th year in Downtown. Catch six equestrian-filled days of eye-popping competition, more than 500 top national and international horses and riders—including Olympic veterans—Barn Night, Kids’ Day, special exhibitions, a silent auction, and shopping at more than 40 specialty boutiques, many with an equestrian flair.

Not to be missed: the $100,000 President’s Cup Grand Prix, the Puissance high-jump competition and the WIHS Equitation Classic Finals showcasing the country’s top junior riders. Kids’ Day, featuring free pony rides, face painting, arts and crafts, the chance to see a horse grooming station and much more, will take place on Saturday, October 27th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm both inside the Verizon Center and on a closed street nearby—come rain or shine.

WIHS, which supports and partners with local, military and national charities, is the nation’s leading metropolitan indoor horse show. Children 12 and under are admitted free to all daytime performances at the horse show before 5:00 pm. More information, including a daily schedule of events, is available at the WIHS website.
