DowntownDC celebrated its newest hotel opening on Oct. 26 with a ribbon cutting and press unveiling for the Trump International Hotel (1100 Pennsylvania Avenue), a $200 million investment to redevelop the Old Post Office Pavilion.

The 263-room hotel includes 22,000 square feet of retail space.

Ivanka Trump, executive vice president of development & acquisitions for The Trump Organization, kicked off remarks with an introduction and history of the Old Post Office office, a national historic site and the location of the city’s main post office until 1914, as well as the Trump Organization’s journey of turning the property into a luxury hotel.

Ivanka Trump was joined at the opening by her father, Donald Trump, chairman and president of The Trump Organization, and Donald Trump, Jr., executive vice president and other family members. Donald Trump expressed his excitement over completing the hotel ahead of schedule.

Over 100 hotel staff (chefs, maintenance, food service, concierge, and other employees) filled the second floor during the event and surrounded the stage as eight select staff were chosen to hold ribbon and golden scissors for the official ribbon cutting.

The new hotel opened for businesses several weeks prior, following the September soft opening, but up until Oct. 26 the hotel had been closed to the public and only open to hotel guests.

Members of the public can now enjoy happy hour in the hotel lobby at its Benjamin Bar and Lounge. The National Park Service is set to resume public tours of the Old Post Office Tower this year.
