Strong John Thomson Elementary School, a D.C. Public School located in the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID), has organized a group of DC Scores students to clean up Franklin Park on May 25 as part of a service learning project.

Members of DowntownDC BID will be joining the effort and the Operations team will be providing rakes and other equipment to assist in the clean up project, which will take place from 3:30-6:30pm. Students plan to bring recyclables from the park back to the school and create innovative ways to use the products in their new rooftop garden.

Representatives from Thomson Elementary, located at 1200 L Street, recently presented at a DowntownDC BID board meeting and notified board members that they are interested in finding new ways to expose students to businesses in DowntownDC. The school invited BID members to visit their rooftop garden.

Franklin Park (13th & I streets NW) is DowntownDC’s largest park at 5 acres and is a National Park Service property. The BID continues to work with the District, NPS and partners on the effort to renovate this park into a more active, flexible space for all Downtown residents, workers and visitors to enjoy.
