Stressing the Experience

On November 29, the DowntownDC BID offered testimony at a hearing of the DC Taxicab Commission regarding taxi fares in DC. The BID did not take an official stance on any of the multiple fare proposals before the commission, instead focusing its testimony on improving the taxi experience for customers and increasing the level of service available to citizens, workers, and visitors. Taxis are a critical element to DC’s transportation system. Thus, the BID laid out four performance criteria for improving the passenger experience: a simple and transparent fare structure; ease of payment for customers; comfortable, clean, vehicles; and a sustainable vehicle fleet.  These criteria are the same broad goals that the BID has for Metrorail, Metrobus, the DC Circulator, and Capital Bikeshare. The Taxicab Commission will evaluate the various fare proposals in the coming weeks.
