For years the DowntownDC BID has worked in cooperation with the Metropolitan, Metro Transit, and US Park Police to provide personal safety information to area employees and visitors at lunchtime Information Lobby Fairs. This August, we expanded and modified the Lobby Fair program to focus more on the BID and the multifaceted work of our uniformed Safety/Hospitality and Maintenance (SAM) employees. For the first time, fairs were held at the Penn Quarter FRESHfarm Market on 8th Street between D and E Streets; Capital Harvest on the Plaza (CHOP) located on Woodrow Wilson Plaza at the Ronald Regan Building and International Trade Center (1300 Pennsylvania Avenue); a Mystics game at the Verizon Center (601 F Street); and at the headquarters office of the Court Services and Offender Services Agency, (633 Indiana Avenue) during its Preparedness Safety Fair.

Attendees learned about BID services and programs from our SAMs and Communications staff rep Ebony Walton, who answered questions, handed out visitors’ maps and Safety First brochures, and promoted the Washington Examiner’s ARTS ON FOOT sponsored by Wines of Argentina, produced by the BID and the Pennsylvania Quarter Neighborhood Association.  People signing up to receive our Downtown Update e-newsletter received their choice of a BID cap; a free pass to ride the DC Circulator, the popular surface transit system; or a combination flashlight-compass-whistle keychain..

Additional fairs will be held at the CHOP outdoor market every other Friday from September 16 through November 16. Fairs run from 11:00 pm – 2:00 pm. We hope to see you there!
