Capital Bikeshare (CaBi), DC and Arlington County’s popular bikesharing program, rolled out another way to promote bicycle safety and make traversing through the area less taxing on the pocketbook. Members can now opt to buy customized CaBi helmets online for $16, and pay for annual memberships in smaller installments—$7 per month, with a full 12-month commitment. Previously, bikers were offered only four membership options: annual ($75), monthly ($25), three-day ($15) and 24-hour ($7). The new monthly installment plan totals $84 annually and includes the cost to cover transaction fees.

On the safety side, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) recently completed a successful pilot with the Kimpton Hotel and Restaurant Group to distribute helmets to casual users. It is now looking to partner with other area hotels. Kimpton is behind such recognizable Downtown brands as the Donovan House (1155 14th Street), Hotel Monaco (700 F Street) and Poste Brasserie (555 8th Street).
