It’s back! Screen on the Green, a longtime D.C. tradition, kicks off on Monday, July 22, on the National Mall, between 7th and 12th streets. Join the open-air freebie, which offers a wonderful lineup of American classics, captivating views of the U.S. Capitol, and a 20-foot by 40-foot screen. This year, four films will be shown on Monday nights beginning around 8:30 p.m. or 9 p.m., with Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Norma Rae leading the way. The 1971 musical Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and Tootsie follow. Take your blanket and picnic basket. Please note, however, that the movies will not be shown in extreme weather. The screenings attract about 15,000 tourists and residents per movie and are sponsored by the Friends of Screen on the Green, HBO, and Comcast.
