Marshalls, the discount store that sells brand name and designer fashions, is coming to Downtown D.C. The clothing chain will occupy space at 529 14th Street vacated in 2011 by Filene’s Basement, the popular retailer known for bargain shopping and special bridal events. Filene’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and shuttered all stores, including three in D.C.

When it opens on December 1 in the National Press Building, Marshalls will join T.J. Maxx (601 13th Street), another discount clothing retailer which opened in the Homer Building in April 2012. Despite their addresses, both stores have entrances on F Street, DC’s oldest retail corridor, and are owned by Framingham, Massachusetts-based TJX Companies, Inc. The stores will be in walking distance of each other and will be located only a block apart.

This will be Marshalls second D.C. store. The other is located in Columbia Heights at the DC USA shopping complex. Another store is also planned for the Shops at Dakota Crossing in Northeast.  Marshalls offers current-season goods for men, women, teens and kids and has more than 750 conventional stores, as well as larger stores named Marshalls Mega Store, in 42 states and Puerto Rico.
