Exercise in the Park Winding Down

All was cool and calm at the DowntownDC BID’s Workout Wednesdays exercise class in Franklin Park on Sept. 18. In fact, you can say it was downright quiet and peaceful. Why? Yoga ruled. No jumping, twirling or kicking for the class’s 30-plus participants. And, thank goodness, no oppressive heat.

It was a fitting way to begin winding down a 12-week series of workouts scheduled to end next week. What remains:

  • Sept. 25The Workout Wednesdays Finale/All-Star Bootcamp

So, you see, it’s not too late to join us and partners Crunch Fitness (555 12th Street), Freshii (1005 E Street) and City Sports (715 7th Street). Crunch instructors have taught a different class—from Pound to Total Conditioning—each week in the park since July 10. Multiple fitness instructors will return for the All-Star Bootcamp next week.

Don’t be shy. Join the fun at 13th Street between I and K streets! The festivities and exercise session will begin at 5:30 p.m., wrapping up at 6:30 p.m. Giveaways— everything from gift cards, coupons and water to T-shirts, water bottles and fruit—will be distributed once again by us and our partners, including Teaism (400 8th Street).

But we want to end with a bang. So a grand prize will be presented at the last class to the “exercise maven” who has attended at least three Workout Wednesdays classes and uploaded a short video about his or her workout experience to our Facebook page @DowntownDCBID by 1p.m. next Wednesday.

What goodies to expect: a complimentary, one-year Crunch membership; catered lunch for the winner and four friends courtesy of Freshii; tennis shoes and a $100 gift card from City Sports; and an 32GB engraved iPod touch and Bluetooth speaker, courtesy of the BID.

All participants, however, are eligible to receive one of 10 Bluetooth speakers and any other freebies that we can get our hands on—because like a clearance sale, everything must go!

We urge everyone to continue following us on Twitter @downtowndcbid to keep up with the latest information, including inclement weather plans. Use the #workoutwednesdays hashtag to participate in the conversation.

One more class to go!
