Educating Sidewalk Café Permit Holders

yes

Most people like sidewalk cafes. They’re chic, enliven streets, and provide cozy perches from which we can all people watch. That said, restaurants offering this extra delight must be compliant, and to ensure that they are, a city task force made up of several agencies will continue to make educational site visits to very gently remind and inform operators of the do’s and don’ts under their regulatory authority. The visits will proceed through June and pick up with compliance and operational reconciliation site visits through October. Why? Now that DC has hundreds of sidewalk cafes in just about every nook and cranny—up from one about 50 years ago—the city wants to ensure the public’s safety, bridge any gaps between operations and regulatory requirements and make sure that operations are accurately reflected in DC government records.
