Bring out the party hats and confetti! The DowntownDC BID turns 15 in November. Launched in 1997 with an initial and immediate goal to make Downtown Washington clean, safe and friendly, the BID is the oldest, and today remains the largest, BID in the city. Still, it’s hard to believe that the first Safety/Hospitality and Maintenance employees (SAMs) began patrolling Downtown streets nearly 15 years ago. Since then, a vibrant Downtown community with new restaurants, cultural venues, retail stores and residential housing has emerged. We’ve come a long way!

To celebrate the organization’s founding and, more important, the evolution of Downtown DC from “dull, dirty and dangerous” to a remarkable urban experience, we’re taking the time to celebrate. To herald this benchmark, we’ve planned an unprecedented, year-long celebration that will begin on November 15th with a kickoff event at the International Spy Museum (800 F Street). The year will include events and cross marketing opportunities with Downtown stakeholders, cultural institutions, restaurants and hotels. Won’t you join us? We’re seeking sponsors to support a series of events, both indoors and outdoors. Find out more about our special partnership opportunities, and help us celebrate Downtown’s magnificent transformation.
