More properties keep popping up in Douglas Development Corporation’s (702 H Street) extensive portfolio. The latest: both 736 and 740 6th streets, which it purchased this month and plans to redevelop and combine into one modern, Class B office building with a total of four floors and street level retail. The company bought the buildings for $1.6 million, according to the Washington Business Journal. Three restaurants—Burma (authentic Burmese cuisine); Kanlaya (traditional Thai fare); and Urfa Tomato Kabob (Mediterranean inspired food)—now occupy 740 6th Street, which will be the new property’s address. The Bistro Med pizza parlor located at 736 6th Street recently relocated. Other moves, including by office tenants, are coming as all leases expire this year. Located a half-block from the Verizon Center (601 F Street), the new building will total 20,880 square feet (SF), with 18,456 rentable SF—4,500 SF of retail; 13,956 of office space. The redevelopment project will begin next year and continue into 2015.
