To improve public safety and save lives, DC rolled out Smart911 this month. The new initiative allows city residents to create an online profile which will immediately provide emergency responders with more complete information when citizens make 9-1-1 calls, and will be particularly helpful when callers are unable to speak. The profiles, automatically displayed to 9-1-1 during emergency calls, allow first responders to minimize errors by responding to the right address, with the right personnel and the right equipment. Among the information that can be included in the Safety Profile: specific medical conditions and disabilities, all family members, vehicle information, and even information about pets.
