Revelry is in the air as Macy’s celebrates its 150th anniversary this fall. The venerable retail and cultural icon reaches the big milestone on October 28. Customers get to indulge in local festivities on Saturday, October 25. You’re invited to join local celebrities and dignitaries, grab some treats, win free gift cards and earn special discounts at the 12th & G Streets location.

Among the celebratory events at the Downtown store:

• 10:00 am: A performance by the very talented Ballou High School Marching Band will kick off the birthday festivities.

• 10:00 am: A $15 Macy’s gift card to the first 150 customers at the main entrance when the store opens.

• 1:00 pm: A  demonstration by Alanna Markley, pastry chef at Hello Cupcake, on how to make festive cupcakes and throw a birthday celebration.

• 2:00 pm: A special AK Anne Klein gift will be available with any purchase of $75 or more when you shop AK Anne Klein’s Fall 2008 Collection. Also enjoy deluxe pampering while indulging in refreshments and the special attention of a selling specialist, who will offer style guidance and highlight the most coveted looks of the season.

• 2:00 pm: A face painting area with a balloon artist will be set up in the children’s department.

Meanwhile, to benefit local HIV/AIDS charities, Macy’s will offer fashion mavens and others the chance to view a one-night-only screening of “Macy’s Passport: Fashion Cinema” on Thursday, October 23. The store’s popular fashion show will be transformed to the silver screen for the first time in its 26-year history and at Regal Gallery Place Stadium 14 at 8:00 pm. The screening, which features fashion, music and dance, also includes a pre-show reception—replete with champagne, complimentary theatre concessions and an exclusive Macy’s shopping discount—at 7:00 pm. Visit www.macys.com to find out how you can participate.
