Listen up historic preservation fans, and others. American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation have brought Partners in Preservation to the D.C. area. The program will help keep history and beauty alive in our neck of the woods but also provide $1 million in preservation grants to historic places in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. You can help by voting. Twenty-four historic places—including the National Museum of Women in the Arts (1250 New York Avenue), Metropolitan AME Church (1518 M Street) and the Sixth & I historic synagogue (600 Eye Street) in Downtown—are vying for funding for a special project that will restore, preserve or revitalize them for the future. Vote daily for the places you adore, and spread the word. But hurry, the deadline to submit votes is this Friday, May 10. The historic place with the most points will walk away with up to $100,000. The remaining funds will be distributed to the other participating historic places based on a recommendation from an advisory committee of area community leaders. All grant winners will be unveiled on Monday, May 13.
