J. Crew, the upscale clothing store, will open this August in the Atlantic Building (950 F Street), a Douglas Development (702 H Street) property located on DC’s oldest retail corridor. J. Crew will occupy 8,625 square feet (SF) over two levels in the building, now home to Anthropologie and, coming this spring, The Art of SpYn indoor cycling and yoga studio. The iconic fashion retailer is a favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama and has two DC locations, in Georgetown and Chevy Chase. Douglas Development, Downtown’s largest private property owner, has acquired and renovated several vacant properties and populated them with both national and independent retailers, including restaurants. Besides Anthropologie, J. Crew will join national apparel chains such as GUESS (1155 F Street), H&M (1025 F Street), Forever 21 (1020 G Street) and Zara (1025 F Street) in an emerging Downtown Shopping District, which will be anchored by CityCenterDC, the10-acre, mixed-use development that will have the largest cluster of planned Downtown retail space at 335,000 SF (185,000 SF in Phase 1, expected to be delivered next year).
