Bike to Work Day is just around the corner and will take place on Friday, May 18. Hurry, free T-shirts are limited to the first 11,000 cyclists who pre-register by May 11, so sign up now! This year’s Downtown pit stop is Woodrow Wilson Plaza at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center (1300 Pennsylvania Avenue).

So, please, don’t show up at  Freedom Plaza on 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. All the action will go down a block away, where the DowntownDC BID has partnered with the Reagan Building to sponsor this year’s pit stop for cyclists, who will convene there from 7:00 am to 9:00 am from points throughout the city and region.

Bike to Work Day is part of the DowntownDC ecoDistrict program, as it celebrates and promotes bicycling as a sustainable and healthy transportation mode. The event is supported by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association and Commuter Connections, the regional network of transportation organizations coordinated by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG).

Woodrow Wilson Plaza is one of 58 meet up spots throughout the region. Prizes, food, drinks, and more will be available at each location. Give your leg muscles a workout. Register today. Don’t have a bike? Capital Bikeshare will have staff on hand to accommodate extra bikes at the 14th and D streets bike station. And Bike and Roll Washington DC (1100 Pennsylvania Avenue) will offer complimentary and comfy hybrid bike rentals to locals for the occasion.

To reserve a bike, call 202.842.2453 or e-mail DowntownDC@bikethesites.com with the following information: name(s), local address, phone, height, desired pick-up location—Downtown DC or Alexandria only. Note that early pick-up is available from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 17. Day-of pick-up begins at 7:00 am. A photo ID and credit card information will be required as a deposit. Okay, moms, get ready!

Bikers will be able to enjoy a leisurely ride through the heart of DC by taking either a full, 24-mile ride beginning between 7:00 am and 7:30 am, or an 11-mile family ride beginning between 7:45 am and 8:15 am. Both rides start at 3rd Street and Madison Drive, in front of the U.S. Capitol. Find out more at the Bike DC website.
