America Recycles Day Observed

The DowntownDC BID celebrated its 15th anniversary with a kickoff party that occurred on November 15th, America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day to promote recycling in the U.S. The timing certainly recalled fond memories. In March 2011, the BID partnered with PepsiCo and the District Department of Public Works to place 363 PepsiCo Dream Machine recycling bins throughout the DowntownDC BID area. Since the program launched, more than 133 tons of material—including glass, aluminum and paper—has been diverted from landfills. The recycling bins offer a convenient recycling option for people while they are on-the-go. It also advances the BID’s DowntownDC ecoDistrict, created in April 2011 to give us a framework within which to pursue goals of economic vitality and environmental sustainability by working with BID-based building and business owners.
