The federal government has the General Services Administration (GSA), which helps manage and support the nation’s departmental operations. And come October, the DC government will have a new Department of General Services (DGS), which will, among other things, manage capital improvements and construction for DC government facilities, acquire real property, administer the disposition of DC property, and oversee space in government buildings.
With a general fund budget of about $355 million, DGS will be the city’s third largest agency behind DC Public Schools (DCPS) and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and will have more than 700 employees, including those from the Department of Real Estate Services and the Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization. No news yet on an agency head.
