On a world soccer high? Keep the spirit of the games alive. Tune in to the 2010 Street Soccer USA Cup, taking place at Washington Kastles Stadium, located in the CityCenterDC lot on 11th and H Streets, on Friday, July 30 through Sunday, August 1.
This year’s event will include 200 homeless athletes from 18 American cities. The participants will be competing for a spot on the US team that will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the Homeless World Cup, an international street soccer tournament designed to build self-esteem in homeless people. It serves as a catalyst for life changing community, personal and grassroots development programs among the homeless.
The action begins with a Parade of States, opening round matches and live entertainment on July 30 from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Activities over the remaining two days will include a skill competition; live entertainment by multi-platinum hip-hop producer Kevin “Khao” Cates; semi-finals, trophy and exhibition matches, final matches and an awards ceremony.
