Working on the Roadway

Release Date: Thursday, July 31st 2008

Pennsylvania Avenue, “America’s Main Street,” is about to get a facelift—just in time for the pomp and circumstance surrounding the presidential inauguration scheduled for January 2009. Mark your calendar because paving and repair work will go on for nearly three months beginning August 11 through October 30, weather permitting. Only a small but very important section of the seven-mile street—from 3rd to 15th Streets—will be affected. Otherwise, all lanes will be available during morning and afternoon rush hours, although you should expect some lane reductions during work hours, according to the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). Roadwork will occur from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and between 8:00 pm and 3:00 am, Monday through Friday. Don’t be mad. At least the next president will start his term off right, with a very smooth ride to the White House!
