Release Date: Wednesday, September 3rd 2008

With the presidential inauguration set for January 20, 2009, the work to spruce up Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd to 15th Streets has begun in earnest. Expect some lanes on “America’s Main Street” to be closed through October 30, weather permitting, as roads are torn up and resurfaced. Ditto for a portion of Independence Avenue SW, between Washington Avenue and First Street.
The good news: Lanes will be available during morning and afternoon rush hours. Roadwork will occur from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and between 8:00 pm and 3:00 am, Monday through Friday, according to the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). If walking in the vicinity, however, keep an eye on the sidewalks, and look out for paint. The sidewalks along the presidential inaugural route from the US Capitol to the White House are being repaired and streetlight and traffic signal poles repainted. McCain or Obama will be pleased.
