Reliving the Past

Release Date: Tuesday, March 8th 2011

History buffs unfazed by trekking to absorb facts and details will love Ford’s Theatre’s (511 10th Street) popular History on Foot walking tours, returning Wednesday, March 23 through Saturday, August 27.

The colorful tours are replete with costumed actors playing historical figures from Civil War Washington and will begin on March 23 with the assassination conspiracy walking tour, “Investigation: Detective McDevitt.” Detective McDevitt will lead a two-hour, 1.4-mile tour, revisiting and reexamining the sites and clues surrounding the death of President Lincoln.

A second tour, “A Free Black Woman: Elizabeth Keckly,” focuses on a former slave, dressmaker and confidante of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln and beings on April 2. Learn about Keckly’s efforts to help former slaves find their way in newly free DC and her friendship with the Lincoln family. This tour runs 90 minutes and spans 1.5 miles.

Both tours will begin outside Ford’s Theatre and will be available in the mornings and afternoons on select days. History on Foot tickets are $15 for individuals and $12 for groups of 20 or more. For more information, visit www.fords.org/.
