The 10-day Capital Pride 2009 celebration kicks off Friday, June 5 and runs through Sunday, June 14.
This annual street festival and parade celebrating pride in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community also includes citywide town hall meetings, interfaith services, parties, cultural events and a reception that recognizes “Heroes” in the LGBT and allied community who have made a difference in people’s lives.
Downtown will host a few events, including Pride Night with the Washington Mystics at the Verizon Center (601 F Street); the Capital Pride Heroes Reception and Capital Trans Pride, both at the Madison Hotel (15th and M Streets); and the annual Festival, the street finale on Pennsylvania Avenue, with RuPaul, America’s famous drag queen, headlining this year’s main stage entertainment on June 14. The annual Parade in Dupont Circle takes place on June 13.
