Release Date: Wednesday, June 3rd 2009

Historical Society of Washington, DC, revelers and patrons will be in for a picturesque treat come Wednesday, June 17, at the group’s Annual Spring Swing and Gala on 8th and K Streets.
This year’s gala will benefit the Historical Society’s Lily Spandorf Collection. Spandorf—Vienna, Austria-born and educated—arrived in the United States 50 years ago and settled shortly thereafter in DC. Best known for painting places, she captured many of Washington’s old buildings, several of which have been torn down, and street life. The Historical Society purchased her Washington Never More watercolor collection in 1998. With this gala and on-going fundraising campaign, the Society will move closer to fully assuming stewardship of Spandorf’s work.
So get ready for an evening of dance, great artwork, food and company. The event will go from 6:00 pm, beginning with a half-hour gallery tour and cocktails, to 9:30 pm and feature the Peter Edelman-Butch Warren Band and a silent auction of local artists' creations. Tickets are $100 per person.
