Come rain or shine, two bands with different sounds, styles and influences will compete in a live, musical play fight at the Red Bull Soundclash taking place at 7:30 pm on Saturday, October 30, on Pennsylvania Avenue and 4th Street. Which band will lift the crowd, call the tune and be the ultimate winner?
Wale, who released his debut album, Attention Deficit, in 2009, will exchange creative, friendly fire with Tokyo Police Club, which released its second full-length album, Champ, in June. Both will vie for fans’ affection as the bands perform on opposite stages, each group taking turns improvising and then waiting for the opposing band to respond.
The musical battle idea is not new. In the early 18th century, Bach and Handel competed at the Habsburgs Court and jazz bands in 1920s New Orleans grooved regularly. Who knew?
