Lobsters and meatballs? Not together, but certainly side by side when French chef Michel Richard opens his new Meatballs casual restaurant at 624 E Street, next door to Luke’s Lobster, on October 31. Although Richard, of Central Michel Richard (1001 Pennsylvania Avenue) and Michel Richard Citronelle fame, introduced a high-priced lobster burger years ago, the focus at Meatballs will be, well, meatballs—plus a little bit of salad, bread, pasta, toppings, and tater tots. There will be traditional meatballs, crab meatballs, lamb meatballs, vegetarian meatballs, and fried chicken meatballs. And let’s not forget the sauce. Diners, including those fancying to-go orders, will be able to choose either marinara, Alfredo, morel mushroom, or a rotating special. Expect seating for 40 and, to quench your thirst, beer and wine.
