You don’t have to be horse crazy to enjoy the 51st Annual Washington International Horse Show (WIHS), coming to the Verizon Center (601 F Street) for six equestrian-filled days beginning Tuesday, October 20.
This family-friendly show, which has attracted such notable past guests as Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and Ford, will bring top horses and riders from across the US and abroad to Downtown to compete for prize money and championship titles.
Marvel at Olympic champions and about 500 horses that will participate in show jumping, hunter, equitation and dressage events. Shop in more than 50 specialty boutiques. Attend special exhibitions. New this year: Washington’s World of the Horse, 90 minutes of the “best of the best” of the horse world. This event will take place on Sunday, October 25, and include dressage, Saddlebreds, barrel racing, jumping, reining, vaulting, terrier racing and more.
WIHS is a charitable organization that is partnering for the third year with Autism Speaks, and with the Horses and Humans Research Foundation and the Equestrian Aid Foundation, which will be the beneficiary of the opening night gala honoring amateur riders.
