Shoppers who favor seasonal and local products from small family farms in the Chesapeake Bay area now have more time to peruse wares at the Penn Quarter FRESHFARM Farmers’ Market on 8th Street, between D and E Streets, this year. The market season runs through December 23, nearly a week longer than last year, when it was extended beyond the week before Thanksgiving until December 17 for the first time. It’s all about supply and demand.

In 2010, FRESHFARM Markets will operate 11 producer-only farmers’ markets in DC and Maryland, including three new locations in Crystal City, Virginia; Bethesda, Maryland; and in southwest DC at the US Department of Health and Human Services.
