Interested in installing a green roof on a house or a commercial or institutional building? Look no further than the District Department of the Environment (DDOE), now accepting applications for its 2011-2012 Green Roof Rebate Program. The program, administered by the Anacostia Watershed Society, provides base funding of $5 per square foot of planted area, and the rebates are available for existing buildings of any size and new construction projects that add a green roof to go above and beyond their stormwater management permit requirements. Green roofs offer many benefits, including reduced energy costs, noise reduction, roof life extension, and improved stormwater management. Hurry, the rebates are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
