Take the bus, bike, walk, carpool, or telework on Car Free Day, taking place on Thursday, September 22. Whatever you do, pledge to go carless at www.carfreemetrodc.com and take the heat off the planet by helping promote sustainable transportation. People worldwide will join the effort to reduce our dependence on automobiles. Last year, 7,000 participants in the DC area dumped their cars for the day. This year’s goal: 10,000 folks. If you fancy biking, grab a Capital Bikeshare bicycle from any one of 114 locations in DC and Arlington County, dust off a little used bike in your basement, or visit Bike and Roll (1100 Pennsylvania Avenue), which will offer free bicycle rentals to mark the occasion. And don’t forget to visit www.goDCgo.com for information on how to get around DC and use an interactive map to help plan your route.
