Release Date: Tuesday, May 12th 2009

Smooth and mellow will describe the sounds wafting from the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden on 7th Street and Constitution Avenue when the Jazz in the Garden series returns on May 22.
Jazz lovers note: There’s something for everyone—Brazilian jazz, an a capella ensemble, contemporary zydeco, jazz guitar and much more, including a Duke Ellington Jazz Festival and the US Navy Commodores, the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble. It all takes place in the lovely, yet informal, Sculpture Garden, which features native American species of canopy trees, flowering trees, shrubs, perennials and 17 stunning works from the Gallery’s art collection as well as special exhibition loans.
A gentle fountain, which serves as an ice rink in winter, provides the backdrop for the art installations and the music, to be performed weekly by various artists through September 11 from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm. For the full program schedule visit www.nga.gov/programs/jazz.
