It’s time to pig out at the ultimate barbecue extravaganza taking place on Saturday, June 25 through Sunday, June 26 when Safeway presents its 19th Annual Barbecue Battle on Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House to the US Capitol.
The two-day barbecue cook-off will feature 50 pit masters from around the US, who will compete for a $40,000 cash prize and bragging rights as the national Barbecue Champion. Wear your walking shoes; there’s plenty of pavement to beat while you eat! Devour mouthwatering fare from a host of vendors, nibble free food in Safeway‘s Sampling Pavilion, enjoy live music from 30 different bands on three stages, including Chuck Brown, the legendary "Godfather of Go-Go," EU Mambo Sauce, and Cowboy Mouth.
New this year: the BBQ Bazaar, which will feature cooking tools and equipment, exotic sauces, spices and rubs, and several cooking demo stages with celebrity chefs.
