Release Date: Thursday, March 29th 2007
Spend the afternoon enjoying homegrown and homemade products at the annual Penn Quarter FRESHFARM Farmers’ Market when it returns Downtown for its fifth season on Thursday, April 5. The market is open every Thursday through November 15, from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at the north end of 8th Street, between D and E Streets. Historically, this area was the Center Market neighborhood where Washingtonians shopped for more than 100 years for their fruits and vegetables. Today, it is once again a vibrant community gathering place where workers, residents and visitors can enjoy fresh and local fruits, vegetables, cheeses, baked goods, soaps, plants, cut flowers and meat – all produced within a 150-mile radius of DC.
The Market is also home to the giant paella, wine tastings and other special events. On opening day, watch Chef at Market Peter Smith, of PS 7 ’s Restaurant (777 I Street), take on the challenge of cooking something from a “market mystery basket” using one basket, unknown ingredients (from the market, of course!) and his creativity. The Chef at Market demonstration begins at 5:00 pm.
