The elephants are coming … the elephants are coming! A procession of pachyderms will invade Downtown as part of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s annual circus parade, taking place about 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 16. The gray beasts will strut around 3rd, G and 6th Streets en route to the Verizon Center (601 F Street), where the circus will kick off for four glorious days, beginning Thursday, March 18.
The Parade of the Elephants is a cherished annual ritual, delighting and astounding both adults and children as the convoy moves from Washington Avenue SW and makes its way into Downtown. The circus will offer nine performances this year through Sunday, March 21.
“The Greatest Show on Earth” won’t disappoint. Clowns, human cannonballs, magicians, illusionists, high-wire acts, exotic animals and trapeze artists will all flood the arena with mind-boggling performances. But as a special treat, families will be able to attend “Clown College” an hour before show time. Little visitors and others can try their hands at juggling, meet the performers, watch contortionists, try on clothing used in the show and much more. Entry to the College is free with a show ticket, priced from $7 to $110 each.
