Get ready for a world of elephants and excitement. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s circus is coming to town, led by a procession of pachyderms in the annual circus parade, taking place about 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 22. The gray beasts will strut around 3rd, G and 6th Streets en route to the Verizon Center (601 F Street), where the circus will kick off for four fabulous days, beginning Thursday, March 24.
The Pachyderm Parade is a cherished ritual, delighting and astounding both adults and children as the convoy moves from Washington Avenue SW and makes its way into Downtown. The circus will offer nine performances this year through Sunday, March 27.
“The Greatest Show on Earth” has upped the ante for a supersized birthday bash in honor of 200 years of fun filled entertainment. Clowns, human cannonballs, magicians, illusionists, high-wire acts, exotic animals and trapeze artists will all flood the arena with mind-boggling performances. As a special treat, thrill-seekers will be able to attend a pre-circus show an hour before show time. Little visitors and others can see an elephant that paints, learn circus skills, meet the performers, watch contortionists, and much more. Entry to the pre-show is free with a show ticket, priced from $14 to $110 each.
