It's the Year of the Ox and Downtown is celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year with a Parade which will take place from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, February 1, on H Street, between 6th and 8th Streets in Chinatown.
The parade is part of an annual festival celebrating the Lunar New Year, one of the most important traditional Chinese holidays. The festivities will feature the Chinese lion and dragon dances, live musical performances, Kung Fu demonstrations, cultural exhibits and a five-story high firecracker that will be ignited at 3:45 pm.
In previous years, this event has attracted more than 40,000 patrons and tourists. The Downtown BID is a contributor to the parade, which is hosted by the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, an umbrella organization representing 30 Chinese-American organizations throughout the Greater Washington Metropolitan area.
