Capital Changes

Release Date: Thursday, October 27th 2011

To fund its expanding bicycle network, Capital Bikeshare has upped prices for casual users and implemented other changes. Beginning Thursday, November 3, the current five-day pass introduced last March for visitors will disappear, replaced with a three-day pass for $15 (price unchanged). A 24-hour membership will rise to $7 from $5. And while the first 30 minutes will remain free for all members, usage fees for casual members will climb by 33% for each succeeding half-hour increment and trips lasting longer than 90 minutes will accrue an additional $8, instead of $6, every 30 minutes. The cost of annual and monthly memberships remain unchanged. Capital Bikeshare, DC and Arlington County’s regional bike-sharing program, has 116 stations, 1,100 bikes and more than 18,000 members. It will expand to the National Mall and Alexandria next year. For more about the popular red bikes and the new pricing structure, visit www.capitalbikeshare.com.
